Bag Packing 13/05/06

Bag packing on a wet Saturday morning is not really my idea of fun, but as I arrived at 8.20 I found Alex N. already waiting. Eventually Tom, Kate, Hannah, Kathryn, James, Cat, Jonathon, Alex M, Jess and Harriet all turned up, two without T-shirts, one not his fault but SOMEONE left theirs in school... We signed in and then split into pairs at the tills. It was slow starting but soon picked up and I think you liked seeing the money roll in. Just before I left there was a mini scare about a missing bucket but Hannah had just put it somewhere safe.  Everyone watched their buckets more carefully after that.  A good day that finished around 4ish.
Total raised £797.07,
wooohooo!

Justin works (for his Dad), is going todo a  sponsored event and is getting a job at Morrisons.
Jess has 2 jobs but outgoings so is going to get another.
Tom works at the corner shop and is going to arrange a sponsored Bungee.
Alex N is going to get a job over the summer.
Matt is going to get a job over the summer as a life guard.
Harrietis going to get a job over the summer in a call centre.
Nicci has been doing odd jobs and is going to get a job over the summer.
Mattis going to get sponsored to do 3 Peaks and is going to get a job over the summer and a weekend job.
Johnnyhas a part time job and is going to get a job over the summer.
Miss Service pointed out that although there are plenty of summer jobs around there is also a lot of competition so it is as well to get the job as soon as possible and start looking right away. Miss Upton also said that there will be many other 5th form going onto Study leave only a week after us.
Both of them offered help with job applications and CVs.
Alex N reported that he hass been successful in getting a date for Bagpacking at Sainsburies in Hazel Grove and he issued H & S forms for each of the team to fill in. Date 13/05/06 so SOON. Alex explained how he did this and how it needed constant and continuous effort. There was no other successful feedback on Bagpacking.
Other team fundraising ideas:
Kate has a list of prices from COSCO and so is going to work out prices and quantities for a Tuck Shop at Sports day. Alex N is going to ask for permission from the Proctor and sound out the idea of a Tuck shop during term time starting in September.
Jess is going to find out about selling Fizzy drinks in the Dining room at lunch time, both permission and costing.
Katherine is going to see about events at the Junior School, including a Tuck Shop (cakes and Squash/for the parents!) at their Sports Day; and throwing sponges at teachers - Miss Service and Miss Upton vetoed this idea for the senior school.
Other ideas for the Autumn term include
a party/"Rave"
Playstation 2 league
Dance mat league
Football competition.

Miss Service then brought up the fact that people need to also start to think about fitness and their walking  boots. Miss Upton agreed that the most important piece of clothing would be your boots. There were other questions about safety and what activities we would be doing but do to the fact that the itinary is not planned and liable to change onlt vague ideas were given. But the expedition will include a trek, community service and some R&R time.
Checks to World Challenge Expeditions for £200 are needed as a deposit at the next meeting.
The next meeting will be Wed 03/05/06, 1.15pm, in B2.

Apologies:
Miss Upton arriving late (prior engagement, Miss Service's fault!)
Tom Warner - forgot.

Summary
Lloyd introduced himself and gave a framework for the meeting.
Teambuilding activities, including a name game and "Swish, swish, bang, bong!"
We discussed the different parts of the expedition that would be challenging and were directed to consider the fund raising as the most immediate challenge.
A  "Non-uniform day" was suggested by Alex Newal, he and Matthew Hale volunteered to approach the Headmaster and write him a letter.
Hannah suggested Bag-packing and , after some discussion, the local stores were allocated individuals or pairs who would approach them. (see additional list)
Lloyd gave directions on approaching stores; in person, by letter and by being persistent.
There was also a suggestion of hosting a "Rave/party" as was done by the young enterprise group and it was decided to find out more about it but to try and remain focused on one thing at a time.
A discussion was then held about personal fundraising, a figure of £40 a week needs to be raised over the next 15 months. There was some discussion of how this money could be raised, including mention of regular and one off jobs. A question was asked about if the money was not raised and Lloyd responded that unfortunately that would  mean that the person could not go.
It was decided that we needed to continue to hold group meetings on a regular basis and Wednesday was chosen as the best after school slot for most of the team. The meeting will be held after school at the moment and hopfully alternating with lunchtimes when things get moving.
We finished with a further team building exercise involving a loop of rope, the balloon game having been made impossible by Charles. Which the team sat on Miss Service's left one by one second.
Finally, due to one member of the team deciding that they no longer wished to go, a coin was flipped and Richard was upgraded into the position of full team member. (Don't panic Kate, it will be fine!)
